MUSKEGON, Michigan (October 4th) – For the second consecutive game, the story of the night belonged to Lumberjacks Goaltender Eric Schierhorn (2-0-0) as he stopped every shot that came his way tonight to earn his first career USHL shutout in just his second start between the pipes. The offense tallied a goal in each period as the Lumberjacks cruised to a 3-0 shutout victory tonight at the L.C. Walker Arena.
Midway through the opening period, the Lumberjacks (4-0-0, 8 points) netted the game’s first goal of the night that happened to be game-winner as Cooper Marody deflected a shot from the left point from Janik Moeser past Brendan Jensen (0-1-0) for his second goal of the season to make a 1-0 game at the 10:14 mark. Robbie DeMontis was credited with the secondary assist on the Marody tally.
Muskegon would keep the offense cranking throughout the first period and took their one goal lead into the locker room after outshooting the Force, 17-9.
The score held into the middle stages of the second period when Muskegon doubled their lead to 2-0 at the 11:30 mark as a Fargo turnover led to C.J. Smith’s team-leading third goal of the season as he ripped a wrist shot from between the faceoff circles past Jensen’s glove side. Mason Jobst and Trevor Morbeck were credited with the helpers.
The Lumberjacks took that lead into the second intermission while still outshooting Frago by a 25-21 margin.
The third period saw the Lumberjacks add an insurance goal on the power play just 1:06 into the final stanza as Connor Hurley roped his second goal of the season short side from the left faceoff circle that was assisted by Tommy Panico and Adam Larkin.
The remainder of the game belonged to Schierhorn as he was up to every task the Force threw at him making 12 saves in the final period to earn the shutout. The Force pulled Jensen for the extra attacker twice in the final five minutes, but could not find a way to get their offense going.
Muskegon outshot Fargo by the slimmest of margins, 34-33, and the Lumberjacks’ offense had eight different players tally a point in the home victory. On the power play, the Lumberjacks were one-for-five while the Force went empty on their six opportunities. Muskegon earns their first victory over Fargo since joining the USHL four seasons ago (1-4-0).
